Pre-sale tickets for this event are now sold out. We hope you’ll join us for another Designspeaks in the near future.

Invisible Creature: Undisciplined. Ten Years In The Making.

Grammy nominations aside, the Seattle-based brotherly duo behind Invisible Creature will not be defined by a single category. Sure, the brothers Clark might be most-widely recognized by their work with artists such as Mumford & Sons, Foo Fighters, and Arcade Fire. Or their efforts for music-related events and labels such as Sasquatch! Music Festival or Warner Brothers Records, but that’s merely a part of the story. Join us as Don Clark runs us through what makes the family venture work, how the two of them create together, and from where the inspiration is drawn. And redrawn. Laugh. Cry. Tip one back. Whatever your reason, you will not want to miss an opportunity to see the creature up close.

Admission includes complimentary small-batch wine and beer from the Pacific Northwest, hors d’oevres, and treats from Portland’s Alma Chocolate. Presented by Designspeaks, Ace Hotels, 52 Limited, and Gibson.

DAMNED RIGHT, THE RUMORS ARE TRUE!

You may have also heard that one night following Invisible Creature in Portland, Designspeaks Seattle will be hosting Portland’s own Aaron Draplin at Gibson, just a couple of doors down from Ace Seattle. See more here. Since the DDC and the IC are switching cities to speak, we’re calling it “The Spit Swap.” Purchase The Spit Swap COMBO ticket (see above)  for both events and not only will you be a part of something larger, you’ll save big time. We’re fine-tuning the details for a Design Train package between Portland and Seattle (and back) in partnership with Amtrak and will offer deals for hotel rooms at the Ace(s) in both cities. Pricing details will be published shortly.

And as if you needed more, the first 20 advance ticket buyers each receive a FREE signed event poster AND a copy of Bracket magazine, Vol. 2. (Together, worth WAY more than the paltry price of admission!).

About Designspeaks

Designspeaks exists to encourage people to talk about design. Our purpose aims to explore design within the multidisciplinary: architecture, brand, communications, experience, film, fashion, graphic, and industrial. To establish an interface within the context of real life. To support the most compelling regional voices in design. To talk it through.

Designspeaks is aligned with the Ace Hotel properties in Portland, Seattle, New York, and Palm Springs. Each local event celebrates talent practicing in the immediate region. Previous speakers include Seattle’s Modern Dog, professor and filmmaker Andrea Marks, dean of Northwest design, the redoubtable Byron Ferris, Communications Arts editor Patrick Coyne, creative director Jelly Helm, designer and entrepreneur Aaron Draplin, educator and illustrator Frank Chimero, design style-makers The Official Manufacturing Company (OMFGCo), and design firm, The Felt Hat.
